The sound quality from a properly serviced gramophone normally amazes those who hear one for the first time - people who often have a pre-conceived idea that gramophones sound poor. Rest assured they can sound extremely good with an 'atmosphere' that is lacking in modern formats. This is pure recorded sound, un-messed around with and is quite addictive! BUT - IMPORTANT, first gramophones and phonographs have to be properly serviced and 'tuned' by someone who really knows them!
I also specialise in phonographs (cylinder record players) which are from the dawn of recorded sound. plus genuine antique horn gramophones which play well and are very decorative.
My machines have been sympathetically cleaned and properly overhauled to perform as their manufacturer intended - not a quick job! After all, most machines are now 60 - 100 years old – rubber gaskets need to be replaced, springs removed, cleaned and re-greased (sometimes replaced), bearings adjusted and lubricated, governors re-set, soundboxes (the pick up) serviced and tested to perform perfectly, etc, etc. This is why my machines look and sound so good!
